Nashville 1 point ahead for last Western Conference postseason spot

The Nashville Predators, seeking their first playoff berth, remained one point ahead of the St. Louis Blues for the final postseason spot in the Western Conference after a 1-1 tie Thursday night.

Kimmo Timonen scored for Nashville and Eric Weinrich connected for St. Louis, which has been in the playoffs 24 straight years, the longest current streak in major league sports.

St. Louis has played 22 overtime games this season and is 10-2-10. The 10 overtimes wins are the most in the NHL and one short of the league record. Nashville is 6-2-9 in overtime this season.

Before the tie, Nashville had lost three of its last four games. The Predators remain one win shy of their franchise record of 34.

STARS 2, FLYERS 2 (OT)

At Philadelphia, Brenden Morrow's goal with 35 seconds left in regulation lifted the Dallas Stars into a tie with the Philadelphia Flyers.

Rob DiMaio also scored for Dallas, 8-1-2 in its last 11 games. The Stars are three points behind Vancouver for fourth place in the Western Conference.

Marcus Ragnarsson and Tony Amonte scored for Philadelphia, which moved within two points of Tampa Bay for first place in the East.

RED WINGS 4, BLUE JACKETS 2

At Columbus, Ohio, Brett Hull snapped a tie midway through the third period and the Detroit Red Wings stretched their unbeaten streak to six games with a victory over the Blue Jackets.

The Red Wings have won 15 of 19 games between the clubs and entered with the most points in the Western Conference, one point ahead of Colorado in the race for the top playoff seed.

BRUINS 3, SABRES 2 (OT)

At Buffalo, Mike Knuble scored his 20th goal of the season 1:15 into overtime, lifting the Boston Bruins to victory over the Buffalo Sabres.

Jiri Slegr and Martin Lapointe also scored for the Bruins, who extended their unbeaten streak to four games (3-0-1).

The Sabres are chasing the New York Islanders for eighth place in the Eastern Conference.

DEVILS 6, BLACKHAWKS 4

At East Rutherford, N.J., Patrik Elias scored two late goals and the New Jersey Devils inched closer to the Atlantic Division lead by holding off the Chicago Blackhawks.

The Devils moved within six points of first-place Philadelphia in the division. New Jersey has played two fewer games than the Flyers.

PENGUINS 3, MAPLE LEAFS 2

At Toronto, Ric Jackman, Rico Fata and Aleksey Morozov scored against backup Trevor Kidd, and the Pittsburgh Penguins won their season-high fourth straight with a victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Pittsburgh won despite allowing Toronto to record a season-high 46 shots to the Penguins' 17.

PANTHERS 3, CANADIENS 2 (OT)

At Montreal, a little rest helped Roberto Luongo get ready for a stellar hometown appearance.

Luongo stopped 32 shots, and Olli Jokinen scored his second goal of the game 1:19 into overtime as the Florida Panthers beat the Montreal Canadiens.

FLAMES 4, SENATORS 2

At Calgary, Alberta, Ville Nieminen's second goal in two games helped the Calgary Flames beat the Ottawa Senators.

Marcus Nilson had two goals for the Flames, including an empty-netter with eight seconds remaining.

Nieminen's unassisted goal at 9:16 of the third period came after Ottawa defenseman Chris Phillips had the puck skip past him at the Ottawa blue line.
