Hiking

The trails are clear, the buds are breaking, and streams and rivers are rushing, making spring the perfect time to clear your lungs on a scenic walk. Hit a vineyard trail and you can check out the business up close.

The Sonoma Overlook Trail winds through forests and offers a bird?s-eye view of the town and surrounding hillside vineyards, in addition to a lovely stream-side stretch. The 2.2-mile Sonoma Ridge Trail at Glen Ellen?s Jack London State Park is also an ideal route for outdoor enthusiasts: It passes redwood groves, vineyards and Bathhouse Lake, created by Jack London himself.

For those with a seaward bent, the Pomo Canyon Trail in Jenner is a 3-mile hike through coastal valleys to the open sea at Shell Beach. You?ll find everything spring here ? green grass, the swelling Russian River and sweet-smelling flowers along the path.
