"This is a very intense time for them. 'Cat adjusters' - or catastrophe adjusters - are a special breed who are not only very good with people, they really extend themselves to make customers as comfortable as possible under the circumstances," he said.
The company has posted its 800 number in newspapers and on Web sites. It has also run spots on radio stations that contain instructions on how to contact the company to file claims.
Fireman's Fund also has declared a moratorium on canceling policies in any affected areas.
"Until further notice, we are suspending any kind of non-renewal so people can put their lives together," Mr. Kozero said. "Once that's done and we return to some degree of normalcy, we can let them know if they want to renew their policies, we're here."
