Sonoma State University's nurse practitioner program is offering low-cost physical examinations this spring.

Registered nurses enrolled in the university's master's program will conduct the exams.

Nursing faculty will supervise.

"It's a win-win situation.... They come in and get some very good care and the students get some practice," said Becky Cohen, the nursing program administration coordinator.

The nurses will conduct complete physicals and screening tests including blood pressure, vision, hearing, urinalysis, anemia, cholesterol and Pap smears for cervical cancer.

Exams offered include those often required for sports programs, pre-employment and Class II driver's licenses.

The clinic will be open March 23 to May 18, by appointment. Residents of Sonoma County are eligible.

The cost of a physical examination is $30. The Pap test is $35, a cholesterol check $25, hearing tests are free and a DMV physical examination is $60.

For an appointment call 664-2466, between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. weekdays.
