Venues gear up for Oscar night of festivities

Didn't receive your invitation to join hosts Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin on March 7 at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles for the 82nd annual Academy Awards?

Not a problem, as there are plenty of events to choose from in the North Bay this year.

Here's a sampling of Oscar night festivities:

The Sonoma International Film Festival hosts an Academy Awards party with oodles of hors d'oeuvres, vino and cocktails, at Estate Restaurant, 400 W. Spain St., Sonoma. Tickets: $125. Contact: 933-2600.

Barndiva will host an Oscars Viewing Party at 4:30 p.m. that includes a five-course prix fixe menu from Julia Child's "Mastering the Arts of French Cooking." Affronti will serve specialty cocktails and nibbles, wines by the glass and specials during an Oscar-viewing party at 5 p.m. Reservations are recommended: 431-1113. 235 Healdsburg Ave., Healdsburg.

Oscar Night America at the Rafael Film Center in San Rafael features a live HD telecast and a silent auction. It's sold out, but you can probably score a few tix on Craigslist or StubHub. Tickets: $50. Contact: (415) 526-5843.

The Robert Mondavi Winery in Oakville will host the Napa Valley's 22nd annual Oscar Night Gala, a benefit for HIV/AIDS and cancer services. The party will serve food from 25 valley restaurants and feature comedy and entertainment by Bob Sarlatte. Things get under way at 5 p.m. Tickets range from $25 to $75 with food and wine. You can get an early start on all things Oscar this weekend at the Santa Rosa Symphony's Pops Series concert "The Envelope Please: Oscar-Winning Music." The concert journeys through the soundtracks of Oscar Winners Past, recalling films like "Gone With The Wind," "Ben Hur," "Dr. Zhivago," "Iron Man," "Schindler's List" and "Star Wars" at 8 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday.
